As of October 2026, the Saudi Arabia eSIM tourist price at Pakeesim starts at around IDR 30,000 for 1 GB of data valid for 7 days, and tops out a little above IDR 100,000 for 4 GB over 30 days. For comparison, Telkomsel's RoaMAX Umroh roaming pack starts at IDR 285,000 for 5 GB over 12 days. A data eSIM is far cheaper, with trade-offs. The data allowance is smaller, there's no phone number, and your phone has to support eSIM. The table below pulls prices straight from our catalog, so the numbers are whatever applies when you open this page. There are four plans, from 1 GB to 4 GB, valid for 7, 15, or 30 days.

A few things people ask about pricing:

  • No admin fee, no shipping. It's a digital product, so you pay the plan price plus a unique three-digit code that helps us match your transfer.
  • Validity starts when the eSIM first connects to a network in Saudi Arabia, not when you buy it. Buying a week before your flight is fine.
  • No top-ups. If you run out mid-trip, you buy a new QR code and add it as a second eSIM profile.
  • Payment is by Indonesian bank transfer or QRIS, in rupiah only. We don't take foreign cards or PayPal, which matters if you're not banking in Indonesia. The steps are on the bank transfer and QRIS payment page.

If you're traveling over New Year, the price is the same as in the table. Plans aren't repriced for the holiday season, but check the table again before checkout because the catalog can change.

Why is a Saudi Arabia eSIM so cheap?

Fair question. Indonesian operators' Umrah roaming packs mostly cost more than IDR 250,000, while a data eSIM can be a tenth of that. The difference is in what's inside the plan. No trick involved.

First, this eSIM is data only. No local number, no SMS, no call minutes. Telkomsel's combo roaming packs, for example, bundle call minutes and SMS, and that's baked into the price. Second, the allowance is small. The biggest plan is 4 GB, while Umrah roaming packs usually start at 5 GB and go up to dozens of GB. Third, you're not paying for coverage in a string of transit countries, unless you pick a regional eSIM on purpose.

So "cheap" here means right-sized for the basics. Messaging family on WhatsApp, opening Maps to find the right gate at Masjid an-Nabawi, checking the bus schedule to Makkah. For long video calls every night, the data will feel tight.

One more thing we should be upfront about. Every plan has a fixed GB allowance stated up front, and that data runs at full speed with no hidden daily cap.

eSIM, Telkomsel roaming, or a local SIM: which one is cheaper?

Each option has its own trade-offs. Roaming prices in the table come from Telkomsel's official Umrah and Middle East roaming page, as of October 2026. Telkomsel is Indonesia's largest mobile operator, so it's the usual benchmark for Indonesian pilgrims.

Option Example price Data Number & SMS Notes
Data eSIM (Pakeesim) From about IDR 30,000 1–4 GB None Install at home, your home number stays active
Telkomsel RoaMAX Umroh IDR 285,000 (5 GB/12 days), IDR 310,000 (10 GB/12 days) 5–70 GB Included in combo packs Easiest if you need a lot of data
Telkomsel roaming eSIM IDR 300,000 (10 GB/12 days), IDR 425,000 (20 GB/17 days) 10–23 GB Not listed Also needs an eSIM-capable phone
Saudi local SIM (STC, Mobily, Zain) Varies Varies Saudi number Passport and fingerprint registration at the airport

A local SIM is often cheap per GB, but it takes time. According to Gulf News, visitors need to show their passport and visa or border number, then give fingerprints for biometric registration. Queuing at an STC or Mobily kiosk in Jeddah airport after a nine-hour flight is no fun. Even less so when your group is already waiting on the bus.

Our take: a data eSIM fits pilgrims with light to moderate usage best. Operator roaming makes more sense if you need dozens of GB, want to keep receiving regular calls on your home number over the cellular network, or your phone doesn't support eSIM yet.

Which plan fits a 9, 12, or 30 day Umrah?

As a rough rule, 1 GB covers about a day of Maps, chat, and some social media. Plenty of pilgrims use hotel WiFi for heavy stuff like video calls or uploading photos, and only use mobile data when they're out. If that's you, the math gets a lot lighter.

Validity matters too. A 7 day plan won't cover a 9 day Umrah program, however carefully you use it. Our suggestions:

  1. 9–12 day Umrah, light use (chat, occasional Maps, hotel WiFi): the 2 GB / 15 day plan.
  2. 9–12 day Umrah, lots of photos and videos to the family group: the 4 GB / 30 day plan, or 3 GB / 30 days if you want to save a little.
  3. Longer programs or Umrah plus Turkey/Dubai: look at the Middle East eSIM plans, which cover Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the UAE, and six other countries in one profile.

Honestly, we think 1 GB is too tight for any Umrah trip. It's better suited to a short layover or a business trip of a few days spent mostly indoors on WiFi.

If you'd rather not count megabytes every day, the 4 GB plan gives you more breathing room and a full month of validity.

Does a Saudi Arabia eSIM cost more on iPhone?

No. Plan prices are the same on iPhone and Android. Only the device requirements differ.

According to Apple Support, eSIM works on iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, and later, and one iPhone can hold eight or more eSIMs. There are exceptions. Dual nano-SIM models sold in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao (model codes ending in CH/A or ZA/A) don't support eSIM, and neither do phones still locked to a carrier (SIM Lock or Carrier Lock shows Locked). Check your phone on the eSIM compatibility page before buying, because orders for devices that don't support eSIM can't be canceled.

On Android, the quick check is to open Settings, go to SIM or Mobile network, and look for an "Add eSIM" option. If it's there, you're good. On iPhone, the steps from scanning the QR code to turning on Data Roaming are in how to install eSIM on iPhone.

Umrah in the December–January holidays: when should you buy?

School holidays and New Year are usually peak season for Umrah departures from Indonesia. eSIM prices don't go up with the season, but two practical things are worth sorting out early.

First, buy and install the eSIM at home while you're on WiFi. Validity only starts once it connects in Saudi Arabia, so buying a week or two ahead costs you nothing. Unpaid orders expire after 3 hours, so finish the transfer right after checkout. Second, consider going up one data tier. In busy season pilgrims tend to share more photos and videos with family back home, and topping up mid-trip means installing a new eSIM profile from your hotel.

Once our staff confirm your payment, the QR code shows up on the order page within minutes and is also sent to your email. Illustrated steps for iPhone and Android are on the eSIM installation guide.

Before you fly

In short, a data eSIM is the cheapest way to stay online during Umrah if what you need is chat, maps, and regular check-ins with family. Your WhatsApp number stays active because the eSIM only takes over mobile data. If you need dozens of GB or your phone doesn't support eSIM, operator roaming is still a reasonable choice.

Check your phone, count the days of your program, then pick a plan from the table above. Safe travels, and may your Umrah be accepted.

FAQ about this topic

Can I make calls and send SMS with a Saudi Arabia eSIM?
No. The Saudi Arabia eSIM from Pakeesim is data only, for browsing, maps, chat, and app-based calls like WhatsApp. There's no local Saudi number, so you can't receive SMS or regular phone calls on this eSIM.
Will my home WhatsApp number stay active during Umrah?
Yes. The eSIM is added as an extra data line next to your main SIM, so your home number stays active for WhatsApp and SMS one-time passwords. Only mobile data moves to the eSIM, and WhatsApp keeps using your existing number.
When does the Saudi Arabia eSIM validity start?
Validity starts when the eSIM first connects to a network in Saudi Arabia, not when you buy or install it. That means you can safely buy and install it at home a few days before your flight, as long as you're on WiFi.
What if my eSIM data runs out before I fly home?
Plans can't be topped up. Just buy a new plan and scan the new QR code as an extra eSIM profile. Payment is by Indonesian bank transfer or QRIS in rupiah, and the QR code usually appears on the order page a few minutes after staff confirm payment.
Can I use a Saudi Arabia eSIM as a hotspot for my family's phones?
On most plans, yes, and the usage comes out of the same data allowance. Keep in mind the largest plan is 4 GB, so sharing a hotspot with several phones drains it fast. It's usually cheaper for each family member to have their own eSIM.
